history ,
- - - The story of Spencer and Claire is actually quite adorable. The two had been best friends since junior high, and it wasn't until they were both juniors in high school when they finally had the guts to admit they had romantic feelings for each other. From there they began dating and it went very well. They went on to the same college and graduated together, and the day of graduation was the day Spencer proposed. They were that super amazing couple that you knew were just meant for each other. A year after they married, they were living in a cozy little apartment in Manhattan when Claire found out she was pregnant. It was around the same time that Spencer got a job at a law firm in California, so they figured the timing was perfect. When they went shopping for houses, they did it with a family in mind.
- - - About seventh months later, Claire gave birth to little Dominic. The couple was ecstatic, and spoiled their little boy rotten. And a couple years later they gave him a little sister named Arabella. At first, toddler Dom was not thrilled about this -- it meant less attention for him, after all. But he quickly warmed up to the little baby girl, and when she was old enough to start playing, they were inseparable. Dom was always a quick learner, and miniature nerd at that. At first he wanted to be a lawyer like his father, but even then you could always find him parked in front of the TV watching the History Channel. His parents thought he was adorable, and his sister said he was a dork.
- - - The last Laurent child was an "oops," though she was loved as greatly as her older siblings. Nahla Laurent was born when Dominic was nine and Arabella was seven. Dominic and Arabella took after their father looks wise, while the new baby looked more like Claire. They were one big happy family, complete with white picket fence and golden retriever. But perfection never seemed to last. When Dominic turned thirteen, his birthday party was a large barbecue in the backyard of their suburban home. They ran out of ice for the coolers of drinks, and Spencer was sent to buy some from the nearest store. But as the hours passed and he didn't return, the family grew worried.
- - - That night, Dominic answered the door to find a policeman outside, who asked to come in and had them all sit down. He then proceeded to explain to the family that Spencer Laurent had been a victim of a robbery at the local store, and had been shot and killed. The family was wrecked in one day. Claire was a mess, Arabella likewise. Nahla was too young to really understand what was happening -- she was only four. In the months that followed, Dominic was constantly there for his grieving mother and sister. He felt like he had to be the man of the feeling, so he never took the time that he needed to mourn the loss of his father. As a result, it left Dom a little hollow, and the tension built up until he was angry all the time. But he was always there for his family, and worked as much as possible as soon as he turned sixteen so that he could support them.
- - - It didn't help that Dom was the spitting image of his father. His mother could barely even look at him without getting upset. But Dom did his best to cope with all the stress. As time passed and the slow healing process left them a little less broken, Dom was able to start thinking about his own future. He gave up the idea of being a lawyer, thinking it would be too upsetting for his mother. But history had always been his real passion, so he decided to become a history teacher. Several years of college later, Dom got a job at the local boys school, Hakebourne. After that shut down, Dominic transferred to Norrington, which was the school his youngest sister was attending. He's now quite happy, though has always had a spot of him that's a bit hollow from the trauma he experienced as a youth.
