during the childhood, the ramsey children always dreamt of bigger and better things. however, life for them wasn't all too bad. they lived a middle class life with the average necessities and everything provided for them. finn ramsey was a farmer and devoted much of his life to farming. he loved it and frankly wouldn't have traded it for the world. he made sure his children understood the land and the honest value of the dollar. they were exposed to animals of every sort and finn believed this particular lifestyle would shape them into well-rounded people. most importantly, he hoped both of his sons would one day take over the cattle productions he oversaw. being from texas, such hopes weren't uncommon. eliza, however, couldn't have been more different than her husband. she was a tour guide and took tourists to see many attraction, both in texas and other major u.s. cities. she had always wanted to travel to other countries in her endeavors but neither her children nor her husband would allow her the freedom to do so. nevertheless, she loved her job all the same.
as with every twin situation, there's always the good twin and the bad twin. bryce ramsey loved to please mom and help dad out around the farm. he was willing to do anything that was bound to keep him in the positive light. as bryce was good, nolan was a trouble maker. even in his young years, he loved to defy the orders of his parents and go off into his own tangents. though he wasn't much of a country kid, nolan found an interest in horses. he wasn't in love with them and didn't think he'd ever see them in his future but still, he understood them. eliza always discouraged him from riding alone for fear he'd get hurt but finn couldn't have been happier. seeing his son atop an equine gave him the false hope he wanted.
because of his mother's interest in traveling, nolan had found a spark there. the family had taken plenty of road trips all over the united states but there really wasn't anything about america that sparked much within him. frankly, he thought america was boring in comparison to some of the wonders of the world. he'd begged his mother to take him to europe but she always declined his wishes. despite his mother's rejection, nolan continued to bury himself in books, movies, and anything else he could get his hands on. he did quite a bit to educate himself but nothing compared to the real thing.
throughout his school years, nolan had the potential to be somewhat of a genius. he received good marks without really having to try and it was enough to make finn and eliza happy. he'd been your typical teenager involved with the minor drugs and drinking and had even managed to get himself into trouble with the cops a few times. halfway through his freshman year, his social studies teacher approached him with the opportunity to engage in a foreign exchange program that would send him over to europe over the course of a year. nolan couldn't have been more thrilled with the idea but he already knew the answer of his parents. when approaching his parents with the idea, they told him he could go if he had the money to pay for the trip. hell, even nolan knew that wasn't possible.
being that the ramseys lived in the heart of texas, rodeos were quite abundant. though he didn't like to be seen as a farm boy, nolan knew he'd be good enough to compete in the junior division of the rodeo which would earn him the prize money he needed to go to europe. he knew his mother would flip if he told her what he was going to do so he failed to tell her what was going on and informed her that he was going as a spectator. she found this odd seeing as he never cared for farm life but dismissed it all the same. long story short, nolan ended up walking away with the prize money.
